Primary Design Engineer, Electrical

About the Job:

We are seeking a highly skilled Primary Design Engineer, Electrical to join our energy team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing and developing electrical systems for power transmission and distribution projects. This role requires technical expertise in primary electrical design, including substation layouts, equipment selection, and compliance with industry standards.

Key Responsibilities/Deliverables:

• Develop primary electrical designs for substations, including layouts, single-line diagrams, and general arrangements.
• Design and specify high-voltage equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, disconnect switches, and busbars.
• Ensure designs comply with national and international standards (e.g., IEC, IEEE, NEC).
• Conduct technical reviews and feasibility studies to support project planning and execution.
• Coordinate with internal teams, clients, and stakeholders to ensure seamless project execution.
• Prepare technical documentation, drawings, and reports for project submissions.
• Support the procurement process by providing technical evaluations and specifications for electrical equipment.
• Participate in site visits and inspections to ensure the implementation aligns with the design specifications.
• Assist in troubleshooting and resolving design-related issues during construction and commissioning.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• 5+ Years of experience in primary electrical design for power systems and substations.
• Proficiency in electrical design software such as AutoCAD, ETAP, and PLS-CADD.
• Strong understanding of high-voltage electrical equipment and system configurations.
• Experience in working with utility companies, EPC contractors, or consulting firms.
• Knowledge of grid code requirements and industry best practices.

Language Proficiency Requirements:

• Proficiency in English (spoken and written) is required.

Knowledge and Functional Competencies:

• Strong technical knowledge of substation primary design and power transmission systems.
• Familiarity with protection and control schemes in electrical systems.
• Ability to analyze technical specifications and interpret engineering drawings.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
