Protection Design Draftsman

About the Job:

We are seeking a skilled Protection Design Draftsman to join our Transmission & Distribution (T&D) team. In this role, you will be responsible for creating detailed and accurate protection system designs and drawings for power transmission and distribution systems. You will ensure compliance with industry standards and project specifications, working closely with engineers to deliver high-quality protection designs for electrical networks.

Key Responsibilities/Deliverables:

• Draft and design protection systems for T&D networks, including 2D and 3D models for relay coordination, protection schemes, and layout drawings for substations and transmission lines.
• Ensure all protection designs comply with project specifications, industry standards, and local/international protection and electrical codes (e.g., IEC, IEEE, ANSI, etc.).
• Use CAD software for drafting and developing protection system models with an emphasis on design accuracy and efficiency.
• Collaborate with other engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of protection designs with the overall transmission and distribution network.
• Adhere to project timelines and deadlines, ensuring high-quality output and completion within the defined scope.
• Stay updated on the latest trends and advancements in protection technologies, relay systems, and T&D materials.
• Ensure all protection designs meet quality control procedures and comply with the Quality Management System (QMS).
• Assist senior engineers with design reviews, model coordination, and troubleshooting during project execution.

Knowledge and Functional Competencies:

• Strong understanding of protection systems in T&D networks, including relay coordination, protection schemes, and substation designs.
• Experience in designing protection systems for transmission lines, substations, and other T&D components.
• Proficiency in CAD software (experience with MicroStation is a plus) for protection system design.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting protection and electrical schematics.
• Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in designs.
