About the Job:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Secondary  Engineer – Design to join our engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for the design and development of advanced protection and control systems for transmission and distribution (T&D) projects, with a focus on substations, relay coordination, and power system studies. You will play a key role in ensuring the reliability, safety, and efficiency of electrical infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities/Deliverables:

  • Lead the design and engineering of LV/MV/HV/EHV substations from conceptual stage to IFC (Issued for Construction).

  • Prepare and review detailed engineering documents, including:

    • Protection and control schemes

    • Relay and control panel layouts

    • Cable schedules and routing diagrams

    • Single-line and wiring diagrams

    • Interconnection diagrams and BOMs

  • Perform and verify calculations for CT/VT sizing, AC/DC auxiliary systems, battery banks, and cable selection.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant international and regional standards (IEC, IEEE, NEC, SASO, SEC).

  • Coordinate with civil, structural, and primary equipment engineering teams to manage multidisciplinary interfaces.

  • Review and approve vendor documents and technical submittals to align with project requirements.

  • Provide technical support during installation, testing, and commissioning of protection systems.

  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, sharing expertise in relay protection and system design.

  • Stay updated with evolving technologies and standards in protection, automation, and substation design.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems, High Voltage, or related field).

  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in transmission and distribution projects, with strong focus on protection and control system design.

  • Proven expertise in all aspects of protection design for substations across multiple voltage levels.

  • In-depth knowledge of protection relays, meters, SCADA systems, transformers, and battery systems.

  • Strong familiarity with standards such as IEC, IEEE, BS, NEC, and regional regulations.

  • Proficiency with design tools such as AutoCAD, ETAP, CDEGS, or similar.

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills for complex technical challenges.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with client and contractor interface experience.

Language Proficiency Requirements:

  • Proficiency in English (spoken and written) is required.

Knowledge and Functional Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of protection schemes (distance, differential, overcurrent, etc.) and relay coordination.

  • Proficiency in power system studies including load flow, short circuit, arc-flash, and stability analysis.

  • Experience in preparation and review of protection settings and relay configuration files.

  • Familiarity with SCADA, substation automation systems, and communication protocols (IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus).

  • Hands-on knowledge of testing and commissioning of protection relays and associated equipment.

  • Ability to evaluate vendor offers and conduct technical bid analysis.

  • Strong documentation, reporting, and project coordination skills.

  • Capability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines while maintaining high quality.

  • Strong leadership and mentoring ability to guide junior engineers.
