About the Job
We are seeking a motivated and skilled Senior Protection Design Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will play a vital part in supporting the design and development of critical electrical infrastructure projects, specifically focusing on "substation protection and control", "relay coordination", and "power system studies". You will work closely with senior engineers to contribute to the successful delivery of projects by assisting in the design, analysis, and documentation of electrical systems for power transmission and distribution.
Key Responsibilities/Deliverables:
- Design and development of LV/ MV/ HV/ EHV Substation from base design, detail design to IFC stages.
- Develop detailed engineering drawings and specifications: Control and relay panels, Cable schedules and routing diagrams, Single-line diagrams, Instrument diagrams, Wiring diagrams, Bill of Materials (BOM)
- Perform calculations and sizing for: AC/DC power systems, Current transformers (CTs), Voltage transformers (VTs), Battery banks, Cables
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations: IEEE, IEC, NEC
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines: Civil, Structural, Primary equipment
- Support procurement activities: Review vendor drawings and specifications
- Assist with site installation and commissioning
- Stay updated on the latest industry standards, technologies, and best practices: Substation design
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred specializations: Power Systems, High Voltage, Electrical Machines).
- 7+ years of progressive experience in the design and analysis of T&D projects, with a strong emphasis on secondary system design.
- Proven expertise in the design of LV/MV/HV substations, encompassing all stages from conceptual design and detailed engineering to IFC (Issued for Construction).
- In-depth knowledge of secondary system components (e.g., relays, meters, transformers, batteries, control panels) and their integration within the substation.
- Strong understanding of relevant international standards (IEC, IEEE, BS) and regional standards (Saudi Standards, SASO, SEC).
- Proficient in the use of electrical design software such as CDEGS, Dialux, and AutoCAD. Familiarity with 3D modeling software and DMS (Document Management System) is a plus.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to independently resolve technical challenges related to secondary system design.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with other engineers, contractors, and project stakeholders.
- A proactive and results-oriented approach with a strong commitment to delivering high-quality designs on time and within budget.
Language Proficiency Requirements:
Proficiency in English (spoken and written) is required.
