Job Purpose

The Equipment Inspector is responsible for ensuring the operational efficiency, safety, and compliance of heavy machinery and equipment used on construction sites. Key Accountability Areas

  • Inspection Duties:

Conduct visual, auditory, and operational inspections of various types of heavy equipment, including cranes, bulldozers, excavators, and other machinery.

Perform initial, in-process, and final quality control inspections to assess equipment condition and functionality.

Document findings and prepare detailed inspection reports, including recommendations for repairs or maintenance.

  •  Maintenance and Troubleshooting:

Identify and troubleshoot equipment issues, performing minor repairs as necessary.

Coordinate with repair shops for major repairs beyond the inspector's capability.

Manage scheduled maintenance to ensure all equipment is in optimal working condition, reducing downtime and repair costs.

  • Safety Compliance:

Monitor compliance with safety protocols and regulations, ensuring that all equipment meets safety standards.

Conduct load tests and certifications for lifting equipment, ensuring they are safe for operation.

Act as a safety liaison, educating staff on safety procedures and best practices.

  •  Collaboration and Communication:

Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure equipment meets project specifications and timelines.

Participate in safety meetings and contribute to hazard assessments and risk management strategies.

Role Accountability

  • Experience:

Proven experience as an equipment inspector or in a similar role within the construction industry.

Familiarity with various types of construction equipment and their operational requirements.

  • Skills:

Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.

Excellent attention to detail and ability to document findings accurately.

Knowledge of safety regulations and compliance standards in the construction industry.

Proficiency in using inspection tools and software for documenting inspections (e.g., Cat® Inspect).

  • Physical Requirements

Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) and perform physical inspections in various weather conditions.

Willingness to work in confined spaces and at heights as necessary.

  • Work Environment

The Equipment Inspector will work primarily on construction sites, requiring travel between different locations. The role may involve working outdoors in various weather conditions and in potentially hazardous environments, necessitating the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Academic Qualification

Diploma Degree in Any relevant field
