Job Purpose

The MRP Material Controller is responsible for managing the material requirements planning (MRP) process. The role ensures that all materials required for production are available in the correct quantities and at the right time to meet production schedules and customer demand. The focus is on optimizing inventory levels, preventing material shortages, and avoiding overstocking, while aligning with the company's business objectives.

Key Accountability Areas

  • Material Requirement Planning: Analyze production schedules and forecasts to determine material needs. Develop and maintain MRP schedules and systems to ensure materials are available when needed. Coordinate with procurement and suppliers to ensure timely delivery
  • Inventory Control: Monitor and manage inventory levels to avoid overstocking or stockouts. Work closely with procurement and warehousing teams to optimize stock levels, implementing best inventory control practices.
  • Supplier Coordination: Maintain relationships with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials. Coordinate lead times and deliveries with suppliers to ensure that production processes are not delayed.
  • Process Optimization: Continuously review and enhance MRP processes to ensure efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and accuracy. Introduce lean practices to reduce waste in the material planning process.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Generate and analyze reports on material availability, usage, and forecast accuracy. Use historical data to improve the accuracy of future material planning.
  • Communication: Act as the primary point of contact between production, procurement, and suppliers, resolving material-related issues and facilitating cross-departmental collaboration.

Role Accountability

HR Proficiency:

  • Team Coordination: Even for a fresh graduate, the role involves building relationships with procurement, production, and supply chain teams, fostering effective communication to ensure the smooth flow of materials.
  • Collaboration: You will collaborate with different departments to align material planning with business and production goals.

Responsibility:

  • You will be responsible for ensuring that the materials required for production are available on time and in the correct quantities.
  • You will need to be proactive in resolving issues that could delay production, such as material shortages or late supplier deliveries.

Delivery:

  • Ensure timely availability of materials in line with production schedules, while keeping inventory levels optimized.
  •  Aim to balance the need to avoid stockouts with minimizing excess stock to reduce costs.

Academic Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Certification in materials management or supply chain-related courses is an added advantage but not required for fresh graduates.
