Job Purpose

This position exists to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of HVDC systems through testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting. The engineer verifies system performance, resolves technical issues, and ensures compliance with safety standards, supporting the smooth transmission of electrical power across long distances.

Key Accountability Areas

  • HVDC System Testing:
    Perform testing on HVDC systems, including both commissioning and routine tests, to ensure functionality and safety. This includes testing converters, rectifiers, transformers, and other components involved in HVDC systems.
  • System Commissioning and Maintenance:
    Assist in the commissioning of new HVDC systems, ensuring they meet performance specifications and safety standards. Carry out regular maintenance and troubleshooting to ensure continued system performance and minimize downtime.
  • Performance Analysis:
    Conduct detailed analysis of HVDC system performance, including voltage, current, and power measurements. Interpret test results to identify potential issues and inefficiencies in the system.
  • Troubleshooting and Fault Finding:
    Identify and resolve issues related to HVDC systems, diagnosing problems in electrical circuits, components, and control systems.
  • Compliance and Safety:
    Ensure that all HVDC systems and testing procedures comply with local and international electrical standards, safety protocols, and environmental regulations. Ensure that safety and quality standards are adhered to during all phases of testing and operations.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    Prepare comprehensive reports on test results, findings, and recommendations. Document all testing procedures, results, and modifications made to the system.
  • Collaboration:
    Work closely with other engineers, project managers, and technicians to ensure smooth coordination of HVDC system testing and troubleshooting. Provide technical support and advice to other teams involved in the installation and operation of HVDC systems.
  • Software and Control Systems:
    Use specialized software tools and systems for the control, monitoring, and diagnostic testing of HVDC systems. This includes setting up and configuring test equipment, analyzing data, and adjusting test parameters.

  • Training of sub-ordinates and forming a team to get the work effectively.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and direction to subordinates in all aspects of their work.
  • Delegate sub-ordinates in each respective assignment.
  • Ensures fair distribution of tasks to maintain morale, motivation of subordinates.

Delivery:

  • Perform the planned activities to meet the operational and development targets as per delivery schedules.
  • Utilize resources effectively to achieve objectives within efficient cost and time.
  • Provide a periodic report formatted by detailing the deviation and execution of planned tasks.

Problem-Solving:

  • Resolve any related problems arise and escalate any complex operational issues.

Business Process Improvements:

  • Coordinate well-defined written systems, policies, procedures, and seeking automations opportunities as much as possible.

Compliance:

  • Comply to related policy and procedures and work instructions.

Health, Safety and Environment:

  • Ensure compliance of relevant safety, quality, and environmental management procedures and controls within defined area of work activity to guarantee safety, legislative compliance, and delivery of high-quality products/services.

Academic Qualification

Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering
